The Zlatibor project: de-risking carbon mineralisation
The Zlatibor Project is a pioneering scientific initiative designed to validate the safety and efficiency of Passive Carbon Mineralization using ultramafic mine tailings. Our objective is to determine exactly how atmospheric CO2 can be permanently locked into the serpentinite rock formations of the Zlatibor Massif without compromising local soil or water quality. We believe the Balkans possess vast deposits of silicate rocks that naturally react with CO2 to form solid carbonate minerals—effectively turning a greenhouse gas into stone. To scale this technology, we must solve the "Safety Gap." The Zlatibor Project conducts a rigorous Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) focused on sequestration rates, ecotoxicological safety (monitoring heavy metals like Nickel and Chromium), and creating standardised protocols for the Dinaric Ophiolite Belt. By turning industrial waste into a carbon-capturing asset, we are proving that the Balkans can lead the next generation of climate-tech innovation, de-risking a gigaton-scale climate solution for the global market.

Professional-grade de-risking for partners
For our funders and scientific partners, the single most important takeaway is this: Agrofarm R&D is the operational engine that makes Balkan carbon removal safe, measurable, and investable. We offer three critical pillars of certainty. Firstly, Logistical Sovereignty: we eliminate the "Access Risk" by providing land access, heavy equipment, and community trust as a local entity. Secondly, Scientific Integrity: we eliminate the "Data Risk" by utilising ISO-17025 accredited laboratories and independent academic oversight to ensure every tonne of CO2 sequestered is verified by the highest international standards. Thirdly, Environmental Safety: we eliminate the "Liability Risk" through rigorous Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) to identify and mitigate ecotoxicological factors such as heavy metal leaching. In short, we provide the "Boots on the Ground" required to turn geological potential into a verified, bankable climate solution.

Strategic milestones & high-fidelity climate data
Through the Zlatibor Project, Agrofarm R&D aims to achieve three industry-defining breakthroughs for the Balkan region. The first is The First Regional Carbon-Mineralization Map: we will establish a high-resolution geochemical baseline for the Zlatibor tailings. This breakthrough will provide funders with precise data on CO2 sequestration capacity per tonne of rock, turning "potential" into a "measurable asset." The second is The "Safety First" EIA Protocol: one of our most significant results will be the formal Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regarding heavy metal stability. By proving that carbon can be sequestered without releasing Nickel or Chromium into the groundwater, we will create the "Safety Gold Standard" required for scaling this technology across the Balkans.

Driving innovation and community engagement
Continuing our path of industry-defining breakthroughs, we expect to deliver a robust Verified MRV Framework for Ultramafic Tailings. This framework will allow international carbon markets to trust the permanence and additionality of the carbon removed at our site, making the project "bankable" for future large-scale investment. Furthermore, we are establishing a Community-Based Innovation Model: we will prove that a local cooperative can successfully lead a high-tech climate project. This breakthrough in "Social Licensing" will serve as a blueprint for how rural communities can become the primary beneficiaries of the global green transition.
